  • Free stuff, the best – For the eighth year, PC World has compiled a list of the best free stuff entitled 101 Fantastic Freebies; this year topics include Google Docs and Spreadsheets (no longer do you need to purchase software), YouTube (post your videos and view ones on almost any topic), numerous readers for rss feeds, and a wide variety of downloads and services to make your pc technology life a safe, enjoyable and productive experience.

  • Office 2007 tips
    • If you type “=rand(2,4)” without the quotes in Word 2007 and press the Enter key, the command will generate two(2) paragraphs of four(4) sentences each; replace 2 and/or 4 to generate more or fewer paragraphs and sentences. The paragraphs generated are tips for using Word 2007.
    • Rearrange entire paragraphs in Microsoft Word. Select a paragraph to move, hold down the SHIFT+ALT keys, then use the ARROW UP or DOWN key to move the paragraph. Try it to see how easily it works.
  • Tech tips
    • Ctrl Z (hold the Ctrl key while pressing Z) — undo what you have done, including replacing what you deleted.
    • Alt tab (hold the Alt key while pressing tab) — icons of your open programs appear. Repeat Alt tab to scroll through the open programs and open the the highlighted icon.

  • URL’s too long? – Make a long url short and usable; tinyurl.com offers an online solution to long url’s and will hide a url for you behind a short url. When you find an address in Google maps, the result is a very long url; use tinyurl.com to make a short address to copy and paste into your emails or on your Web pages.
